Attapeu Province

Location Map of Attapeu province Laos PDR

Attapeu has two national protected areas, Xe Pian and Dong Amphan and is an eco-tourists delight with its thick jungles, extensive wildlife and the three rivers which delimitate the province. They are the Se Kong, Se Xaman and Se Xou. Travelers can take a boat along the Se Kong River, which makes up the border with Cambodia, and then up the Xe Pian River to access Xe Pian National Protected Area.

The remote and little known Nong Fa Lake is the largest and possibly only crater lake in the country.  This most southerly province is another hidden gem in Laos. Well off the beaten path and generally not heavily visited by tourists, those who make their way down here are never disappointed. Explore the Xe Pian National Protected Area’s dense forests and waterfalls on a home stay in Ban Mai. Trek or cruise in a boat along the Xe Pian River to Tad Saephe, Tad Samongphak and Tad Saeponglai Waterfalls. Spend the night with a Ban Mai family and eat a traditional Lao dinner. View the local way of life and enjoy a relaxing evening on the banks of the Xe Pian. There is much to do for the outdoors type of traveler.
