Bolikhamxay can easily be reached by bus leaving from the Morning Market bus station. It is 150 km or about a 3 hour trip. The most famous attraction of the region is its striking landscape. At Ban Nahin, Phou Pha Mane, lies a stone forest featuring thousands of rock pinnacles. The still pristine forests of Nam Theun National Biodiversity Conservation teem with varieties of wildlife, the largest conservation area in the country at 3,700 sq.km, it is home to over a dozen endangered species including the Asiatic black bear, clouded leopard, elephant, giant muntjac, guar, Malaysian sun bear and tiger. Natural hot springs, cold springs, caves and waterfalls abound. Ban Na, a village on the edge of Phou Khao Khouay National Protected Area offers visitors the chance to see wild elephants from tree top observation tower and you can choose to home stay with a local family if you desire.
