BBan Houë Xay is located in the famous Golden Triangle. It is a popular border crossing into Thaïland, and there are numerous handicraft shops and guesthouses. Scenic walks abound all around this area providing plenty of enjoyable vistas. Across the Mekong lies the Thai city of Chiang Khong. To reach Houë Xay from Luang Prabang, a slow boat  will take at least two days,  with a stopover at Pak Beng, and a speedboat six hours.
