The name of a town and a province in northern Laos it is heavily mountainous and relatively untouched by foreigners. The small town of Phongsaly is built on the slopes of Phu Fa, at 1625 m it is one of the higher elevations in the country. The picturesque main street boasts architecture which is heavily influenced by Chinese styles. The climate isn’t typically Lao due to the elevation, with more precipitation and cooler temperatures. It is, however, very much worth the trek if you wish to see truly untouched Lao ethnic villages.
